A big thank you to all the runners who took part and a huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped make this event really special. Results will be updated as soon as possible.* Latest Update: The Crossdale 10K will be taking place tomorrow (September 25th) at 10 am. At present we have a high number of entrants and it is set to be a fantastic day. Car Parking is available on the school site or the local Pub called the Fairway, which is situated on Nottingham road, opposite Sainsbury's. PLEASE CAN YOU AVOID PARKING ON CROSSDALE DRIVE.If you haven't yet received your race number, you will be able to pick it up from the race entry desk before 9:30 tomorrow.* Race day will be soon upon us. Check out the race day information and car parking guides opposite.* PLEASE NOTE: A list of all entrants are now available on the website under the 'Online Entry ' section.Numbers are being sent out tomorrow (Friday 16th September) so you will receive them well before Race Day.August 2011* Come on, come on, come on. Don’t let a bit of rain put you off. We still have places for the 10k Trail race and the 2.5k Fun Run.We’'ve had a fantastic take-up this year with record numbers entered so far. Events

Crossdale 10kThe 10k course follows a pleasant traffic-free, out-and-back route along the footpaths and bridleways of the South Nottinghamshire Wolds. Furthermore, with the kind permission of local landowners, the race passes through areas of the countryside normally out of bounds to the general public at large. The course is undulating, and covers a variety of surfaces, including grass and gravel tracks.The event is ideally timed, coming shortly after the Robin Hood Marathon, thereby allowing sufficient time to recover race legs. Additionally, it provides and ideal training start point for those wishing to enter the Keyworth Half Marathon (Turkey Trot) in December.Community Fun RunThe fun run is planned to provide a little exercise and fun for all ages. The short (2.3 km) course is entirely off-road, and follows an out-and-back route between Crossdale School and Plumtree Cricket Club. Note that under UK Athletics rules, a signed entry for this event will be considered a declaration that any runners named on the form will run entirely at their own risk, and that they have no medical disabilities that would endanger themselves or others taking part. After the race, you are encouraged to stay and cheer home the 10K runners. All runners will receive a race memento.This year proceeds from the fun run are being donated to both Kadzinuni and Action for Kids.History of the Friends of KadzinuniThe Friends was formed in February 2003 following a 5-year period of informal support from the Seller Family and Friends. The connection with Kadzinuni started in 1998. when The Seller Family became friends with Alex Mwarome Munga whilst on holiday in Mombasa. Kadzinuni is his home village and the family became involved because they had such a wonderful holiday and wanted to try and put something back into Kenya. Nic & Elaine had for many years undertaken voluntary work in education and other fields in the UK, but Kadzinuni quickly became a life changing experience which has led to the substantial improvement of the primary school at Kadzinuni, building a healthcare clinic and other community facilities. The Friends has been a catalyst for the local Kadzinuni people who have now formed a vibrant self-help group and Micro-finance based small businesses for the local ladies.Nic says “We want Kadzinuni to become a self-sufficient wealth creating community, change like this can take a long time, we are trying to accelerate this development for them”.

Crossdale 10K Training Guide

General running advice for beginnersEver thought about distance running but not sure where to start? Running a 10km race, half or even a full marathon takes preparation and training to avoid injuries and to allow your body time to adapt.Build that base!Baseline training serves three main functions. Firstly for longer distances it gets you used to running, making it part of your routine. The more this becomes a habit, the easier it will be for you to find time in your day to run. Secondly, running can put a lot of strain on muscles and connective tissues if you are not used to doing it regularly. Baseline training allows these structures to adapt over a period of time, becoming more robust and able to handle the impact of running. The musculoskeletal system needs time to adapt even if you have good cardiovascular fitness gained in other activities such as swimming or cycling. Thirdly, endurance is built up through baseline training which is a key element in distance running. Once you have built up good baseline fitness, other elements such as speed or hill work can be added to your training to improve your running.Before you start!!Too many people just use any old kit to start off running, and this can very often lead to injuries later on. Just pulling on the pair of trainers that you’ve had for 10 years (or longer!) will not do. If you are serious about running and want to try and prevent injuries from happening, then you need to invest some money and a little time in getting the correct running shoes. The shoes should be of good quality and suit your running style. Don’t just go into a high street store and pick the most expensive or most colourful shoe. Does this mean they will be the best for you? Probably not. Go to a specialist running shop, and be prepared to try on lots of different makes. A good running shop will let you try out the shoes on a treadmill in store if they have one, and some may even video your running style. This can highlight any flaws in your technique, and then the correct supportive shoes can be given. While you’re in the shop, get some advice on the correct socks to wear. A good pair will be seamless to help prevent blisters, and they will absorb sweat and give support at impact points. Ladies you will also need a good fitting sports bra to wear. Normal pairs of shorts and t-shirts are fine to start off running in, but as your enthusiasm for running grows, you may want to invest in running vests, shorts and waterproof jackets or fleeces etc.Getting started!!!Every running session should start with a warm up and finish with a cool down and stretch. Joints should be mobilised with gentle flexing, extending and circling movements. Include ankles, knees, hips, waist, back, neck and shoulders. Brisk walking for 5 minutes should follow, to raise heart rate and body temperature, before starting a gentle jog. Do this rather than going straight into your running pace, as it will make the whole run feel easier if you are properly warmed up. After running, slow down into a jog then a walk, before stretching the major muscle groups whilst they are still warm. Include thighs, hamstrings, glutes, calf and inner thigh.And remember- Run at a pace where you could hold a conversation with a friend. It should be comfortable not agony. If it is, slow down your going too fast!
